Like pokey little puppies, the rest of the family has decided to make the trek to Washington. Next month, with little Inca in tow, Holt and Lucile will be starting their new adventure. Four days, three nights, 1,500 miles. Walker remains to tend the New Mexico home front. So if bicoastal covers the east and west coasts, what will this make us? Biwestern???

Summer Nights and Bears Baseball

We've become number #1 fans of the Yakima Bears! Summer nights, hot dogs, baseball and fireworks - ya gotta love it. Except perhaps little Sully. The fireworks started off fun but when the loud booming started, he quickly changed his mind. Mom had to help him make a quick exit from the stadium.

Yeah! Bridget had her 4th birthday party today at Peter Piper. It was a big "kid" success with Mom's homemade butterfly cupcakes but the grownups were glad it when it was finally over. How did Birdie get so big so fast?

He was our long shot and by golly, he made the horse racing season exciting. MTB came home to Roswell between races to celebrate with his hometown fans. Holt, Bridget, myself, and about half of Roswell turned out to welcome the Bird home.

New Laptop!

Let's face it. . . there is nothing better than setting up a new computer! It's like new pencils and a pristine Big Chief tablet at the beginning of the school year. It's a fresh start with no baggage carrying forward. And this time, I returned to my old roots - I bought an Apple (a MacBook Pro). . . in the early 80's I started off with an Apple IIE - actually typed Holt's dissertation on it, hassled through embedded commands and printed to a daisy wheel printer - then advanced to a Mac before I bailed and went the corporate route with Windows. . . Already, I'm happy to have made the change. . . it feels so much more like home. I've had it with MS - I'm tired of the viruses, sick of looking for damaged registry files, and fed up with the garbage that goes with it. I just want an uncomplicated life with an element of style and class. . . Apple. . . I'm home again.

Playing for Change

Face it. . . it really is true that you can lead a horse to water but can't make him drink. In this case, the horse is Walker. Holt and I recently watched a Bill Moyers interview with Mark Johnson, the producer of the "Playing for Change: Peace through Music" documentary. It both moved and inspired me; reinstated some faith in humanity. Naturally, I sent the link to Walker knowing how interested he would be. . . oh well, must be an old woman thing. Perhaps you are interested. . . for the old women, here's the Bill Moyers interview link with the story and the video. . .

For others, the "cut to the chase" folks, here's a YouTube link to one of the Playing for Change videos, (Stand by Me).

By the way,"Playing for Change: Peace though Music" is the second film directed by Mark Johnson and Jonathan Walls. Their previous film, titled Playing for Change: A Cinematic Discovery of Street Music was released in 2005, and is currently available through Netflix.

Well, with the start of 2009 I guess I'm making a blog comeback. For the most part, 2008 was a year I could do without so as of today, New Years Day, we're starting fresh! New Years Resolutions? I think I'll stay away from that topic for awhile.

It's Holt and me. . . day to day & year to year (37 years this year). Over time and geography, we couldn't ask for more. We live for our kids, grandkids, family, dogs, fish, turtles, and cat. And friends. . . did I mention that they are, without a doubt, the best one could ask for?
